Welcome to our Winter 2010 Newsletter Copenhagen Presents Enormous Challenges for Science Our January 2010 newsletter reports on the implications of the recent Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference for research into green technologies, such as carbon sequestration and hydrogen energy. Such advances are essential to allow the cleaner use of fossil fuels during the transition to a sustainable energy system. Sorption science will play a crucial role in such research because sorption processes have the potential to provide a viable route to the solution of a number of important problems, such as the storage of hydrogen for use as a transportation fuel, and the capture and storage of carbon dioxide. We report here on the use of our IGA systems to measure the uptake of CO and CO2 by impregnated carbons and the absorption of CO2 by ionic liquids, and the application of our HTP systems to the determination of the hydrogen storage capabilities of Mg-based nanocomposites.
