Application Overview

Knowledge of the total amount of gas or vapour adsorbed or absorbed in polymeric materials, together with the transport properties, is fundamental to a range of industrial applications, such as the optimisation of the selectivity and permeation rate of membrane separators.

The IGA-002 gravimetric analyser can measure the uptake of gases and vapours over a wide pressure range. The IGA-003 analyser simultaneously measures both solubility coefficient and diffusion coefficients for a range of species and operating conditions. Equilibrium sorption isotherms and the concentration dependence of diffusivity and mobility (for example, to assess trapping sites) can also be determined. The temperature dependence is also routinely investigated providing equilibrium thermodynamic parameters and site activation energy.

The IGAsorp-CT analyser is a specially developed bench-top climate testing system to measure moisture uptake and diffusion in electronic components according to IEC 60749 and IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020C. This instrument can also be used for determination of moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR) through, for example, film packaging.

We also offer custom designed gas and vapour permeation rate systems including single and multiport analysis.

Examples of published data measured using Hiden Isochema instrumentation can be found in the reference list below.
