Application Overview The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can be reduced by its capture and storage, also known as carbon or carbon dioxide sequestration. The sorption behaviour of CO2 in a range of materials is of great interest in this field and this can be measured accurately at a range of temperatures and pressures using a number of Hiden Isochema products.Single component gas sorption can be determined using the IGA-001 gravimetric analyser, at pressures of up to 20 bar, over a large temperature range. Each of the instruments in the IMI range of manometric analysers can also be used to measure carbon dioxide adsorption. However, the IMI-NRG, in particular, is fitted with a supercritical fluid compressor as standard, which allows the determination of CO2 adsorption up to pressures of 200 bar using only standard bottle pressure. In addition, the competitive adsorption (or coadsorption equilibria) of CO2-containing gas mixtures can be determined using the IGA-003 multi-component gravimetric gas analyser. In addition, our most versatile gravimetric analyser, the IGA-200, allows the determination of CO2/vapour mixtures, while the IMI-FLOW, an integrated dynamic flow and thermal desorption system from the IMI range, can perform gas switching and exchange experiments using CO2.
