Application Overview A range of sorption measurements for hetereogeneous catalyst characterisation can be performed using Hiden Isochema products. These include the measurement of metal surface area and activity, temperature-programmed oxidation/reduction (TPO/TPR) and standard surface area and pore size distribution measurements.
The IGA-003, a multicomponent gravimetric gas sorption analyser allows a wide range of measurement types to be performed in a flow of up to 4 gases, in pressures up to 20 bar, over a wide temperature range. A coupled dynamic sampling mass spectrometer (DSMS) allows simultaneous evolved gas analysis (EGA). The versatile nature of the IGA Series allows different measurement types to be performed on a sample in-situ. For example, a surface area or porosity determination can be followed by a temperature-programmed study. In addition, a range of vacuum and thermal pretreatments can be performed.
Further versatility is provided by the IGA-200, which adds multicomponent vapour capability to the IGA-003. Single component gas and vapour studies can also be performed using the IGA-002 .
For ambient pressure studies, without vacuum degassing, the CATLAB provides a dedicated catalyst characterisation platform that can combine up to 8 gas or vapour streams, with close-coupled mass spectrometric analysis, and measurement temperatures up to 1000 °C.
For higher pressures, meanwhile, with vacuum degassing capability, our IMI-FLOW system provides a wider operating range, for measurements up to a temperature of 500 °C.
