Gas separation
Adsorption is an important unit operation in industrial gas separation technology. Developing and testing industrial adsorbents and new materials relies on accurately characterizing their gas adsorption properties.
Important properties include working capacities, selectivities, enthalpies of adsorption, and gas uptake as a function of temperature and pressure. Each of these can be measured using Hiden Isochema instruments, including the IMI, IGA and XEMIS analyzers. Hiden Analytical mass spectrometers, meanwhile, can be close-coupled to dynamic flow instruments, such as the IGA-003, IGA-100 and IMI-FLOW, in order to selectively determine changes in the gas composition downstream from the sample.
Furthermore, breakthrough curves, which allow analysis of the separation performance of a material, can be measured using our ABR automated breakthrough analyzers. These instruments allow the qualitative comparison of materials but they also produce data that can be fitted to models for adsorption columns.
