Monolayer

An adsorbed film that is one molecule thick (a Langmuir film). This state is rarely observed experimentally but rather the monolayer coverage is interpolated from the multilayer behaviour using, for example, the BET and GAB equations. The specific surface area of the material can then be calculated if the molecular packing arrangement is known.
